After a little while with no response I contacted them through the "Live Chat" feature on their website:

John Boker: it's been down for over half an hour now
Paul: Yes, We are presently facing a little trouble with the server on which your site is hosted. I assure you that our admins are on this, and it will be resolved shortly.
John Boker: no ideas on how long though?
Paul: I am sorry but there is no exact Time Frame
John Boker: is the 99.9% uptime guarantee per month ?
Paul: I am sorry but our Senior admins are working on this and the issue might be resolved soon
John Boker: this is from justhost.com " If Just Host fails to provide the promised 99.9% uptime, we will credit your account with a month's hosting costs, as we guarantee an impressive minimum network uptime of 99.9%."

Just after this conversation (40 minutes downtime) the server came back up and everything was fine, so i was suprised to get another email:

I have jus reset your password back to default.

note:

Apparently the problems i was having weren't caused by the server being down, it was that I don't know how to log in to my control panel.

This prompted another email by me to let them know it was a server problem:

The problem wasn't my password, the problem was web16 was down for about 40 minutes last night.

Sorry, I don't see any problems with your account or our server.
The server has not been turned off or rebooted today.
If we had some problems we would have received a lot of complaints but yours is the only one.

If vs Ternary: Deathmatch

1: INTRO

The Fun With the ?? Operator in C#: if { } or ?? – Which is Faster? article by Keith Elder got me thinking about the if statement and the ternary operator.

Is there a real difference or are they both the same?

To answer this question I put together a little project that tests both cases and times them.

3: RESULTS

The output of the above code suprised me, here are the results:

Here we see that using the if statement is much faster than the ternary operator.

In release the if statement gets faster and the ternary stays about the same.

Surprising to me here was when compiled with x64 the if statement was just as slow (or even slower) than the ternary one.

In release for the x64 they're both almost the same again but the ternary operation is faster than the x86 version.

4: CONCLUSION

In conclusion i think using the if statement would be faster in most cases although in most applications the difference would be unnoticeable.

GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. This custom software could be a new website for the nonprofit organization, a small data-collection application to keep track of members, or a application for the Red Cross that automatically emails a blood donor three months after they’ve donated blood to remind them that they are now eligible to donate again. The only limitation is that the project should be scoped to be able to be completed in a weekend.

No Surcharging

Always treat Visa transactions like any other transaction; that is, you may not impose any surcharge on a Visa transaction. You may, however, offer a discount for cash transactions, provided that the offer is clearly disclosed to customers and the cash price is presented as a discount from the standard price charged for all other forms of payment.

Convenience Fees

For merchants who offer an alternate payment channel for customers to pay for goods or services, a convenience fee may be added to the transaction amount. If the merchant chooses to assess a convenience fee to its customers, the merchant must adhere to the following rules:

• The fee is being charged for a bona fide convenience of using an alternative
payment channel outside of the merchant’s normal business practice (see
example below).
• The fee:
    – must be disclosed to the customer as a charge for the convenience of using the alternate method to pay
    – is applied only to non face-to-face transactions
    – must be a flat or fixed amount, regardless of the amount of the payment due
    – is applied to all forms of payment products accepted in the alternative payment channel
    – is included as part of the total transaction amount
    – cannot be added to a recurring transaction
    – is assessed by the merchant that provides the goods or services to the cardholder and not a third party
• The customer must be given the opportunity to cancel prior to the completion of the transaction

Example:

The merchant provides utility services to its customers, and the customary way
to pay is by mail or in person at the merchant’s location. For the convenience of
its customers, the merchant also offers a website for payments. In this example,
the merchant may apply a convenience fee to payments made via the website.
For further information on Convenience Fees, please contact your merchant bank.
